A funeral for Richard Sowers,
76, a six-year Carson City resident, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Nevada
Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way in Fernley.
Mr. Sowers died Jan. 23, 2007, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born June 9, 1930, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Ralph Sowers and his wife.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, retiring as a major.
He was a member of the Carson City Music Club; Vietnam Veterans No. 388; the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Military Officers Association; the Carson City Triad; the Leisure Hour Club; the Carson Tahoe Hospital Corp.; and the Douglas County Senior Advisory Board. He was the music director and pianist for the Misfits Theater Group in Dayton, and was the president of Carson City AARP Chapter 723.
Among his survivors are his wife, Audrey Sowers; sons Rick Sowers Jr. and Todd Sowers; daughters Robin and Tracy; and stepdaughters Sherrie Young and Gail Bell.
